Awareness

Our Mission

The Upright Canine Brigade Inc. educates pet owners on the symptoms and management techniques for megaesophagus (ME). Through education, we hope more animals will be properly diagnosed and pet owners provided best-practices for disease maintenance.

Every year in the month of June in honor of Canine Megaesophagus Awareness Month, the UCB holds a calendar contest. The top 12 pets with the most “likes” receives a month on the calendar. This year we had over 200 dogs and kitties enter our contest. Every pet that entered received his or her special day in the calendar!

Proceeds earned are donated to a megaesophagus research project designed to enhance the lives of megaesophagus animals. In the last 10 years we have raised over $68,000 for for research programs at Washington State University, UC Davis, University of Missouri, Clemson University and the University of Pennsylvania. Our new goal is $100,000. We are proud to support these veterinarian pioneers, their colleagues and mentors as they search to unlock the mysteries surrounding this disease.

The UCB, founded in 2012 and incorporated in 2015, is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization. We provide support and awareness to pet parents with animals afflicted with megaesophagus. We are a “brigade” of concerned pet parents worldwide participating in pet event and veterinary conferences. We have taken our message of “Hope for ME Animals” to social media, news outlets in print, radio, local and national TV.

The UCB Buffy Project is our out-reach program for rescue and shelter animals with ME.  Since September of 2017 we have worked with over 100 different rescues and shelters and have provided over $50,000 in life saving feeding chairs, neck hugs, food and medical needs  We assist the rescues and shelters with finding suitable adopters for these animals by sharing on our ever growing social media network. We believe every animal deserves a good home. ME animals will return your love 10 fold!
